WINIFRED HARLEY BUCHANAN Winifred Harley Buchanan (Bruce) in her 95th year; peacefully on May 29, 2003. Survived by her daughter Margaret Buchanan of Ottawa, ON; and her son George Buchanan; and granddaughter Clare Buchanan of Cambridge, England. She was born in Swan River, MB on January 10, 1908, the daughter of Dr. George Edwin Bruce and Ethel Winifred Bruce (Harley). After receiving her BA from Wesley College in Winnipeg, she taught in Newdale and Brandon. She married Dr. George Arthur Buchanan in 1935. When her children were grown, she went back to university to study Fine Arts, and received her BFA in 1966. After graduation, she set up a studio first to make pottery and then for hand-weaving. For many years, she worked as a volunteer at the Botany Department of the Manitoba Natural History Museum. Interment at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 6 at Elmwood Cemetery.
