She was born Frances Boychuk in Winnipeg, MB on July 4, 1916. She spent her childhood in Winnipeg before leaving school to work on her fathers farm after grade eight. She met John Hajavitch in her early 20s and they were married. They at first lived in Roblin, MB in the 1940s as she became a mother to one daughter, Evelyn, and a housewife, as John did business as part of Massey Harris. By the 1950s, Frances and John moved throughout Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and northwestern Ontario as John was pursuing a career as a barber in rural areas. She settled down in Winnipeg as Evelyn gave birth to a grandson, Beau, in 1962. As Johns health was failing and he was nearing retirement, Frances, John, Evelyn, and Beau lived together for most of the 1960s and 1970s. After briefly moving to British Columbia after Johns passing in 1977, Frances returned to Winnipeg in the early 1980s. She lived by herself and began a relationship with Holy Trinity Ukrainian-Orthodox Cathedral that continued to her passing. Evelyn had previously passed away in 2000. She is survived by her grandson Beau Hajavitch, and by her brother Joe Boychuk of Surrey, BC, and her sister Jenny Piatocka of Cloverdale, BC. She was predeceased by her remaining siblings, Bill Boychuk, Mary Corney, and Rose Niedjalski. Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 6 at 9:30 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., with Very Reverend Archpriest Henry Lakusta officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
