Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEVELYN JOYCE ROSS (nee NICKEL) July 9, 1944 - June 3, 2003 Peacefully, on June 3, 2003 after an 18-month courageous battle with cancer, Evelyn passed away with her family at her side, after spending four months in Gimli Palliative Care Unit. Evelyn is survived by her husband Bill; daughters, Leslee (Clint) and Natalie; grand-children, Alyssa and Riley; mother Eva Nickel of Emerson; sisters, Myrna (Gerald), Bernice (Dennis) and Phyllis; brothers, Garry (Debbie), Bruce (Ruth). She began working with Manitoba Medical, until she resigned to fulfil her role as mother and homemaker. Evelyn returned to work at Criterion Research when her girls were in school. It was in later years that Evelyn and Bill retired to Winnipeg Beach. It was there she became a member of the Winnipeg Beach United Church, enjoying golfing, curling, bowling and mixed slow pitch. Evelyn also took great pride in her quilting, crocheting, sewing, baking and gardening, but most of all her grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 8 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 9 at 2:00 p.m. in the Our Lady Of The Lake Roman Catholic Church, Hwy. 9, Winnipeg Beach, MB, with Rev. Lynn Stevens officiating. Interment to follow in the Winnipeg Beach Community Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Winnipeg Beach United Church, care of Box 242, Sandy Hook, MB R0C 2W0. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. S.V. Patel and the dedicated staff at the Johnson Memorial Hospital for all their care shown to Evelyn. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
