Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFRANCIS JOHN (FRANK) NEWSTEAD Surrounded by his family, Francis John (Frank) Newstead, 89, of Reef Point, Fort Frances, ON passed away at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK on Thursday, May 29, 2003. Born May 1, 1914 in Winnipeg, MB to George and May Newstead, Frank remained there until 1936 when he moved to Kenora, ON. Reading, traveling, hunting, and fishing were among his favourite pursuits. Sailing being another, he worked diligently with others to initiate the LOWISA Sailing Regatta still held annually in Kenora. As an employee of Ontario Central Airways, and later, as Director of the Kenora District Tourism Office, Frank was well known throughout the area. While in Kenora, he was an active member of Peguonga Lodge No. 414 of the Masonic Order. In 1940, Frank married Audrey Mary Heron of Winnipeg. Their two sons, Robert G. (Joy) of Edmonton and Richard J. (Susan) of Swift Current survive along with five grandchildren, Scott, Andrew (Dalene), Mark (Trina), Jill Newstead (Steven) and Laura (Colin) Jackson; three great-grandchildren, Audrey, Natasha, and Tyler Newstead; two nephews, John (Verlie) of Winnipeg, and William (Leslie) of Richmond, BC. Also surviving are Franks partner of 21 years, B.E. June Smith, and her son, Campbell. Frank was predeceased by his parents; wife; his only brother Cecil and his wife Gladys; sister-in-law Florence Donald; and brother-in-law, Jack Heron. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no commemorative services. Should friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Fort Frances Public Library, 363 Church Street, P9A 1C9.
