CYRIL (CY) ARNIL CRAWFORD February 17, 1920 - June 5, 2003 Cy passed away at the Victoria Hospital on Thursday, June 5, 2003 with his family at his side. He leaves Lucy, his wife of 54 years; their children, Susan (James Young), Alice (Michael Franzmann) and Stephen together with grandchildren, Janet, Nancy and Andrew Young and Erica and Neale Franzmann. Cy was born and raised in Edmonton. He served with the R.C.A.F. in the Second World War, on Flying Boats in Britain and Madagascar. Upon his return to civilian life he graduated with a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia. His working life was with Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. in Chalk River, ON and Whiteshell, MB. He worked for Consulting Engineering firms in Winnipeg and then started his own business, Manitou Manufacturing Co. Ltd. which he sold when he retired in 1989. He was an innovative design engineer with tremendous enthusiasm. Whatever was mechanical he understood it, including the working of his own heart, which he considered an intricate pump. Since retirement his health deteriorated but he and Lucy travelled some and enjoyed life in their penthouse condo. The family invite friends and colleagues to share stories of The Legendary Cy Crawford at a gathering at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 12 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cys name to the Stroke Recovery Association of Manitoba at 1-333 Vaughan Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 3J9.
