RUTH NEWMAN Ruth Newman, aged 80, passed away at home on Saturday, May 31, 2003, after a lengthy illness. She is survived by son Bill (Nancy) of Calgary; daughter Nancy (Jaime Catalan) of Winnipeg; grandsons, Jason and Cory Newman of Calgary; stepgrandchildren, Darin and Shannon Rousseau of Calgary, Michael and Christopher Catalan of Winnipeg, and Diane LeBlanc of Calgary. Ruth was predeceased by Bill, her husband of 51 years; her parents, Ruth and James Dean; and brother Jim. Ruth was born in Turtle Lake, SK on February 7, 1923 and grew up in Carivale, SK from the age of three. The family moved to Fort Garry in 1939, where she has resided since. Ruth ran the post office in Deans Grocery Store on Pembina Highway, where she met Bill. They were married in 1947. She was a lifetime member of the Manitoba Cat Club and enjoyed showing her Persian cats at shows across Canada and in the United States. Ruth was devoted to her family, enjoyed a good tease, a good laugh, and was able to make even the simplest of chores seem fun. She leaves a legacy of rich memories for us to cherish. At Ruths request, cremation has taken place and there will be no public service. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and staff of the Palliative Care Program for their compassion and concern. With their support, Ruth was able to remain at home comforted by her favourite cats, Lissie, Simon and Maggie.
