KEN PREBOY It is with deepest sorrow we announce the sudden passing of Ken Preboy, aged 61, husband of Carol, father of Kevin and Karen, on the evening of Thursday, June 5, 2003. Ken also leaves to mourn his passing, mother Emily and sisters, Judy, Sylvia and Connie. Ken was predeceased by his father Andrew and sister Pearl. Ken was born in Fox Valley, SK in 1942 and survived a battle with polio in 1953, showing his trademark strength and determination at an early age. Ken moved to Winnipeg in the early 1960s to work on the Floodway while putting himself through mechanics school. In 1963 he worked in the Arctic on the DEW system before returning to Winnipeg in 1969 to wed and start a family. Ken leased a Shell service station on the corner of Salter and Mountain in 1969 and worked long hours building up a good reputation and strong clientele. People came to "Kens Shell" not only for car related problems, but for advice on life issues as well. In 1974 the family moved to The Pas where Ken obtained his teaching certificate while teaching at Keewatin Community College. Returning to Winnipeg in 1977, Ken worked different jobs before landing a teaching position with Red River College in 1981, that would become his passion for the next 22 years. One of Kens proudest accomplishments at Red River was setting up the Automotive Service Education Program between the College and General Motors. Ken worked on ASEP for almost 12 years over which time he taught many GM technicians throughout the province. Dad was the most loving, doting father we could ever wish for and instilled strong values in us from an early age. Some of our fondest memories include summers at the cottage in Lac du Bonnet where we worked hard building and maintaining the cottage and also spent endless hours boating, water-skiing and swimming. Dad will be sorely missed by family, friends, neighbours and co-workers, but most of all by the three of us. He was the pillar of strength in our family - no matter what life threw our way dad was there to figure out what to do. It is hard to imagine life without him, but we will get by the way dad always guided us - taking things one step at a time, one day at a time, and no more. We know that you love us very much dad and are so very proud - we feel the exact same way about you. Memorial services were held on Monday, June 9 at Cropo Funeral Chapel. If friends so desire, donations may be made to a scholarship in Ken Preboys name for automotive students at: Ken Preboy Scholarship Fund c/o Red River College D115 - 2055 Notre Dame Ave. Winnipeg, MBR3H 0J9
