He will be sadly missed by his wife of 49 years, Judith (Zook) his two children, Donald (Marianne) of Calgary and Rosemarie (Gordon) Paulley and five grand-children, Marla, Natasha, Noah Hladiuk and Nicholas and Steven Paulley. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Olga Hladiuk, May (Neri) Deveau of NS and Mary Bodykevich (Alex). Brother-in-law Andrew (Nadia) Zook of Selkirk and many nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Ada Hladiuk; sister Annie and brothers, John and Peter. Bill was born in Ladywood, MB, moved to Walkleyburg where he grew up and worked on the family farm. He enlisted with the Princess Patricia Infantry in 1944 and served overseas. After the war ended he purchased land to farm in Walkleyburg. He enjoyed working in the bush camps with his brothers, John and Peter and loved going to the local barn dances. While working his land, he also had a job at the Imperial Oil Refinery and then moved on to a job at the Manitoba Rolling Mills. He married his soul-mate on October 10, 1953 and moved to Winnipeg. In April 1958 he started as a gardeners helper where he loved to work with plants and then worked with the steam fitters, all with the Department of National Defence. He retired in December 1985. While he worked, he always looked after a large garden of his own and his family enjoyed the fruits of his labours all year round. He was a member of Legion 141. After Bill retired he spent his time growing his prize tomatoes, cooking and trying new recipes in the kitchen. He loved watching his sports on T.V. He travelled numerous times to Calgary, Mexico, as well as to Hawaii, the Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand with his wife Judy. Family was very important to Bill. When he was able, he enjoyed taking care of his grandchildren in Calgary and Winnipeg. He looked forward to all the family reunions at Victoria and Patricia Beach and visiting with family and friends across Canada. He loved having people over for a meal, cards and conversation. A few words from the grandchildren - a gift of love: GRANDPA G-Generous R-Really Loved to Cook A-Always had a Smile N-Nature Lover D-Delightful P-Playful A-Always In Our Hearts. To Those I Love And Those Who Loved Me When I am gone, release me, let me go I have so many things to see and do You mustnt tie yourself to me with tears; Be happy that we had so many years I gave you my love, you can only guess How much you gave to me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown But now its time I travelled on alone. So grieve awhile for me if grieve you must; Then let your grief be comforted by trust, If only for awhile we must part, So bless the memories within your heart. I wont be far away, for life goes on; So if you need me call and I will come. Though you cant see me or touch me, Ill be near And if you listen with your heart, youll hear All of my love around you soft and clear And then when you must come this way alone, Ill greet you with a smile and say "Welcome Home" Author unknown Vichnaya Pamyat!
