LESLIE HUBERT COCHRANE November 9, 1924 - June 9, 2003 It is with great sadness that the family of Leslie Hubert Cochrane announces his passing at age 78 on Monday, June 9, 2003 with his beloved wife at his side at Percy E. Moore Hospital. Leslie will ever be loved and missed by his wife Margaret; son Lester and daughter-in-law Yvonne. He is survived by grandchildren, Trevor (Germaine), and three great-grandchildren, Kyla, Avery and Troy; brother John Cochrane (Shirley) of Fisher River Cree Nation, MB; two sisters, Mable Oye (George) of Vancouver, BC and Illa Bird of Peguis First Nation; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and extended family. Leslie was predeceased by his father Alex, mother Maria and sister Elizabeth Wheeler. An outstanding citizen and decorated soldier, Leslie served in the Second World War and the Korean War. Truly a man of honour and wisdom his strength, determination and courage carried him through life. We will forever miss his stories he shared with us. After his service Leslie returned home to Fisher River to be with his loving wife and son where he continued to be an outstanding citizen. Leslie served as Band Councillor from 1959 to 1962 and 1967 to 1968. He also worked for the Fisher River School Board as a bus driver for 29 years (1962 to 1991). With his reliability, courtesy and genuine concern, we always knew our children were in safe hands. Leslie was also an avid sports fan especially baseball and hockey. He was always a dependable follower and supporter of the Fisher River Scouts, Fisher River Terriers and Fisher River Midgets. They could always count on L.H. being there shouting his support and lending a helping hand. His encouragement and presence will always be appreciated and remembered. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Fisher River Personal Care Home and Percy E. Moore Hospital who provided such love and great comfort. Wake services will be held on Wednesday, June 11 at 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Fisher River Personal Care Home and 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Memorial United Church, Fisher River. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June12 at 2:00 p.m. at Stevens Memorial United Church, Fisher River. Officiating Minister John Halcrow.
