LEROY WHITE Leroy (Lee) White, P. Eng., formerly of Toronto and Newcastle, NB, passed away peacefully at age 83 after a brief illness, on June 8, 2003 in Winnipeg. He was the much loved father of Susan (Louis Ifill) of Winnipeg and Phillip (Gail) of Calgary, and proud grandfather of Katie of Regina. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend Kay. A Mechanical Engineer, Lee served as a Lieutenant in the Corps of Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME) during the Second World War. He then began his long career with Canada Packers in Toronto. In 1957, Lee and Kay, like many Maritimers wishing to return "down home", moved back to Newcastle with Susan and Phillip. Lee at first worked with the family grocery business, Leroy White and Sons, and then started his own enterprise, White Construction. The family reluctantly left the Miramichi in 1962 and moved to Montreal where Lee soon rejoined Canada Packers. He went to Toronto head office in 1967, spending many years in the Production Engineering Department of Shur-Gain feed division. He retired as Production Manager for Canada in 1985. Lee and Kay loved to travel and particularly enjoyed trips to the Bahamas and England. In his retirement years Lee enjoyed many hobbies -- from making wine, to hand crafting furniture, gardening and painting. In his last years living at The Wellington in Winnipeg, he displayed a new found talent of cartooning, put his life-long public speaking abilities to work and discovered the pleasures of email. The family wishes to thank the staff and many of the residents of The Wellington for making his time there so happy. At his request, cremation has taken place and there will be no service.
