DONALD WINKLER HURD Don Hurd passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Don is survived by Alice Hurd (nee Veals), his wife of 29 years. Don was born in Brandon in 1926 and moved with his family to Hamilton at the age of eight. He graduated from McMaster University with a Master of Science in Geology. His career as a geologist took him across Canada and many places overseas. Don loved his work and was a lifetime member of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum. He was a highly respected potash geologist. Don settled down in Winnipeg where he met Alice Veals. They were married in April 1974. After his retirement, Don and Alice travelled extensively to visit their many friends around the world. His family log cabin on Cash Lake in Northwestern Ontario was his nest that he always came back to. He shared his love of paddling, fishing, and exploring the surrounding lakes with Alice. His friends on the lake were special and he was like an uncle to many of the children. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and subtle sense of humour. The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their care and support. A graveside service will be held at Darlingford Cemetery in Darlingford, MB, at 11:30 p.m., June 21. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to The Heart and Stroke of Manitoba, Suite 200, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
