DR. ARNOLD WILLARD HOLM April 20, 1910 - June 12, 2003 Arnold Holm, aged 93 years, beloved husband of Carol of Winnipeg peacefully passed away on June 12, 2003 at Deer Lodge Centre. Arnold was born in Otto, MB, son of Sigurdur and Sigridur Holm. He graduated as a medical doctor from the University of Manitoba in 1936 and served at St. Josephs Hospital in Victoria, BC. During the Second World War Arnold and his first wife Eva helped to manage and organize the civil defence in Sechelt, BC and received citations for their work in civil defence. Arnold returned to serve at the Winnipeg General Hospital as an anaesthetist. He accepted an appointment at the Childrens Hospital where he practised paediatric anaesthesia and was involved in intensive care. He was a fellow of American Academy of Paediatrics and a professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba. He was a member of the Canadian and American medical societies, the Canadian Anaesthetic Society, the American Paediatric Association, and served on the board of the Childrens Hospital until his retirement in 1976. Arnold was a Past Master of Beaver Lodge #139 and a member of the Medical Unit of Khartum Shrine Temple. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Carol; son Trevor (Valerie) daughters, Joanne Unruh (David) and Barbara Holm. His stepchildren, Dr. Norman Eshoo (Judy), Christopher Eshoo (Melissa), and Melodie Eshoo Sleeva (Don) eight grandchildren, Keith and Lara Holm, Christine and Paul Unruh, David and Iain Sweatman and Lauren and Jonathon Sleeva, and one great-grandchild Aidan Woods Holm; two sisters, Helga Sigurdson and Lilja Mann, and one brother Daniel Holm (Thelma) and sister-in-law Marie Holm, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and the many people whose lives he touched in his medical practice. Arnold was predeceased by his first wife Eva; three brothers, Adolf, Bernard and Oswald. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 17 at 11:00 a.m. in Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Rd., Winnipeg, with Dr. Gordon Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Garry Memorial Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Gordon Harland, Dr. Christopher Wolkenstein and Dr. Joe Hyakawa.
