EDITH PEGGY SCHMIDT It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Edith, on June 11, 2003 with her family at her side. She leaves to mourn her passing her loving and devoted husband John; son Lawrence (Lorraine), grandchildren, Holly (Dan), Lara and Jon-Paul, great-grandchildren, Alexis and Tyler; son Ronald (Heather), grandchildren, Tracy (David) and Rhonda, great-grandchildren, Andrea and Abby. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Daniel and Julianna Huprack; two brothers, Fred and Nick and one sister Margaret. Mom was born in Winnipeg Beach on December 14, 1914. As a young woman, she worked at the Old Empress Hotel on Lake Winnipeg. On November 15, 1935 she married the love of her life, they remained in Winnipeg Beach to raise their two boys. Mom was very artistic, loving to draw and sketch. She was also an avid gardener and canner, especially loving her flowers, geraniums in particular. Mom held her family close to her heart. She will always be remembered for her generous nature and kind ways to all that knew her. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, June 16 at 11:00 a.m. in the Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church, Winnipeg Beach with Fr. Ernest M. Kamath officiating. A viewing will be held half hour prior to Mass. Interment to follow in the Winnipeg Beach Community Cemetery. Special thanks to Dr. Weisanthal and staff at the Betel Home in Gimli for their care and compassion while she resided there.
