KATHERINE EWCHUK (nee JOSS / KADOBIANSKY) Born January 10, 1915 in Winnipeg. Passed away peacefully June 2, 2003 at the age of 88 in Peace Arch Hospital, White Rock, BC. Kay lived with her parents and siblings in Winnipeg until she was six when they moved to a farm outside Sandilands, MB. At 16, she took a train to Winnipeg to begin a new life. In 1937, she married Peter Joss and their only son Robert (Bob) was born six years later. Throughout their 23-year marriage, they worked side-by-side to build a better life but sadly, Peter passed away suddenly in 1960. In 1963, Kay married Steve Ewchuk and they lived in Transcona until his passing in 1996. They were active members of the Russian Club where they participated in many years of social events, as well as Folklorama. They also enjoyed picnics with their friends at Birds Hill Park. Mom will be remembered with love by her family: son Bob Joss and daughter-in-law Linda with whom she resided for the past seven years in South Surrey, BC and grandchildren, Kris and Kelly (Steven). They will dearly miss their Baba and all the wonderful Ukrainian dishes she so lovingly prepared for her family. Nothing made her happier than to see everyone eat, and that included the many squirrels and blue jays that came calling for their peanuts every day. Kay is survived by her brothers, John and Bill (Martha) Kadobiansky; and her sister Ann Marynowski all of Manitoba; their families and members of the Joss and Ewchuk families. As per mom's request, cremation has taken place. She will be laid to rest in Winnipeg with a service of remembrance to be announced at a later date.
