HARRY FREEDMAN May 17, 1921 - May 13, 2003 "Unique, passionate, spiritual and loving," are a few words we use to describe our dear father and husband Harry Freedman. With a strong will and spirit undiminished, he passed on to a greater place on May 13, 2003, at the age of 81. His enthusiasm, sincere friendship and support will be missed by friends and family alike. Harrys long distinguished career in the Winnipeg garment industry enabled him to leave a lasting impression on many. His special humour, both in English and Yiddish, always shone forth. He made people laugh with his favourite expression, "G-d only created so many perfect heads, the rest he covered with hair." He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Yakir and Brucha Freedman, staunch supporters of the Jewish community. Traditional Jewish values and practices also played an important role in Harrys life. He was an active supporter of the Talmud Torah Beth Jacob Synagogue, the Histadrut, and other charitable organizations close to the heart. His three devoted sons, born late in his life, were his central focus. Nothing brought him greater joy than to watch them grow and achieve success. Loving them enabled him to keep his "grip" on life, and appreciate each precious moment until the very end. His family, Jody, Kerry, Brent and Linda along with the closest of friends and relatives gathered together for a graveside burial service conducted by Rabbi Peretz Weitzman at Bnay Abraham Cemetery on May 14, 2003. Afterwards an intimate group congregated to reminisce and celebrate his life. Special gratitude goes to the caring, dedicated staff of Riverview Hospital (Palliative Care 3E), Seven Oaks Oncology Unit, Homecare, as well as Dr. Norman Hechtenthal. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Hospice and Palliative Care Manitoba, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB., R3J OL3. "Harry...you have enriched our lives..We remember, we mourn, and we celebrate."
