Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRENE HAZEL SANDAGE (MOODY) On Saturday, June 7, 2003 at the Finlay 1 Extended Care Unit of the Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, B.C., Irene Sandage passed away peacefully. Irene Hazel Sandage was born at La Riviere, Manitoba on April 27, 1907 to parents George and Ellen Sutherland. She graduated from Manitoba Teachers College and taught in Manitoba most of her teaching career. She retired from Manitou Elementary School as principal. For many summers Irene taught teachers classes in Winnipeg. On the occasion of the one hundredth anniversary of the Confederation of Canada, Irene received a Centennial Medal in recognition of valuable services to the teaching profession. Irene was interested in festivals, art, drama, music, plus field days and her church activities. Irene married David W. Moody on December 25, 1932 at Vilna, Alberta. Two children were born in this marriage - George David Moody, Winnipeg, and Duane Gloria Moody, Vancouver. David W. Moody died January 16, 1953. On January 14, 1974, Irene married Allen J. Sandage who had retired from the Denver, Colorado, Water Department and who had been a childhood acquaintance. They lived in Spokane, Washington, for 10 years, then moved to White Rock, B.C. They were very active in the church in Spokane and White Rock. Allen Sandage passed away on November 6, 1999. Irene was a resident of the Berkeley Extended Care Unit at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock from July of 1999 until September 2002 and then the Finlay 1 Extended Care Unit at Peace Arch Hospital. Left to mourn her passing are sister Viola M. Stepler, late sister Minerva Clarks family: Frank and Bonnie Clark - Johnny, Karmyn, and Joshua; George and Debbie Clark - Lacey, Wesley, and Lance; Norma and Layne Vaughan - Jennifer and Lori Beth; daughter Duane Gloria Moody, son George and wife Barbara Moody, grandchild Evelyn and husband Tim Berman. A special thanks to the staff at the Berkeley Extended Care Unit in White Rock and the staff at the Finlay 1 Extended Care Unit in White Rock. In accordance with Irenes wishes cremation has taken place in White Rock and her ashes will be placed at the Sandage plot at the Riverside Cemetery at La Riviere, Manitoba. A graveside service will be held at a later time.
