JOHN CHORNEY John Chorney, our loving husband, father and grandpa, passed away peacefully at the age of 76 at Selkirk General Hospital, on Saturday, June 14, 2003. John will be greatly missed by Stella, his wife of almost 50 years; his three sons and two daughters-in-law, David, Harvey (Brenda), and Brian (Brenda) his beloved grandchildren, Emily, Meghan, Michael, and Sarah; as well as brothers, Mike (Sophie) and Joe (Stella) sister Stella Wasylik; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, John Sr. and Nellie; brothers, James and Anton; and sisters, Mary Mikolash and Carrie Sternat. John was born July 29, 1926, on the Chorney homestead established by his parents in 1918 in the RM of St. Clements. He and Stella Kazina wed in 1953, and proudly settled on that same homestead, working side by side, raising their three sons, and farming together as a family in what John liked to call the "land of cream and honey." John was one of the fortunate ones, able to pursue something he loved, for his entire life. His love of the land was evident by his delight in watching things grow, taking crop tours, taking farming workshops, and meeting and talking with other farmers. His interest in the farm continued even after he "semi-retired" only a few years ago. John strongly believed in the farmers creed of neighbour helping neighbour. He was a founding member of the St. Clements Fire Department, and proudly served as a volunteer fire fighter to the community for 23 years. He was a lifelong member of St. Stanislaus Church in East Selkirk. He loved to visit with family and friends. And he loved to travel; he and Stella went on many memorable trips. Grandpa took great delight in his four grandchildren. He loved to tease them, to share treats with them, and to encourage them to "tell me some stories." Prayers will be held Tuesday, June 17 (tonight) at 7:30 p.m.. at Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, MB. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, June 18 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Stanislaus Church, East Selkirk with Fr. Jerry Talarski officiating. Interment will follow in the East Selkirk Cemetery. Pallbearers are nephews, Doug Chorney, Murray Chorney, Clarence Chorney, Gary Komadowski, Michael Kazina, and Conrad Mlodzinski. Many thanks go to Dr. S. Barker and staff on 6A at St. Boniface Hospital, and Dr. R. Lindenschmidt and the staff that provided palliative care in Selkirk General Hospital. Flowers are gratefully declined, those who wish may make donations in Johns memory to either the St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation or the Selkirk General Hospital. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
