Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE JULIEN DEMARE Peacefully, with his family by his side, George Demare passed away on June 14, 2003, at the Grace General Hospital at the age of 82 years. George was pre-deceased by his parents, Maurice and Martha; his stepmother Germaine, and his sister Margaret. He is survived by his three children, Mary-Anne, Kent, and Dano (Katie) two half-brothers, Remi (Maria) and Paul (Doreen) and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. George was born on August 19, 1920 in St. Boniface and grew up in Somerset, MB. Trained as an air frame mechanic with the Royal Canadian Air Force, he was posted overseas in 1941, where he joined the 403 Squadron in England. He landed in Normandy on June 12, 1944, as part of the 2nd Tactical Air Force and served throughout France, Belgium and Holland. George was proud to be a delegate in the Canada Remembers D-Day pilgrimage to Europe in June 1994. George started his own construction firm in 1950 and built over 100 homes and commercial properties in Winnipeg. He was also Property Management Officer for the Hudsons Bay Company, and oversaw the maintenance of numerous buildings across Canada. In 1968, he established Demare Real Estate Ltd. of which he was proprietor and manager until his retirement in 1991. George will be well remembered for his service and dedication to numerous community organizations throughout his life. He also undertook various projects and duties for The Royal Canadian Legion, Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans, Royal United Services Institute, 402 Squadron Association, and 500 Wing of the Air Force Association of Canada. Over his lifetime he received several awards and distinctions for community service, the most recent of which was the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002. We invite friends to join the family in celebrating Georges life on Friday, June 20 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of the Good Shepherd (17Wing Community Chapel) at 2235 Silver Ave. at Whytewold Street, with the Rev. Gordon Shields officiating. In keeping with Georges wishes, cremation will take place and a private interment will be arranged. At Georges request, flowers are gratefully declined.
