LORNE FRANKLIN LOVE June 20, 1941 - June 14, 2003 Peacefully at home, with his wife by his side, Lorne succumbed to a brief illness with liver cancer. He is survived by his wife Joyce; children, Eric and Danalyne, sons, Richard Love (Della), grandchildren, Laura and Christopher; and Wayne (LeeAnn) and grandchildren, Emma and Ben. Brother Lloyd and wife Darlene of Saskatoon also survive Lorne. Lorne was predeceased by his mother Eleanor Frances (Bradshaw) and father George Noah Love. Lorne enjoyed many varied employment endeavours prior to his move to Winnipeg, most notable being a successful partnership in the Melfort Meat Mart. Lorne moved to Winnipeg and began a career in Safeway, ultimately being promoted to meat manager. Before his forced retirement, due to his increasingly ill health, he was employed by Seaco Marine. An encounter with Primary Biliary Cirrhosis took its toll and required a liver transplant. After an almost two year wait, a liver transplant was done in London ON. The stress of waiting had just begun to fade when unexpectedly, Lorne was confronted again with liver problems, this time deemed fatal and his future short-lived. Through each crisis, Lorne remained loving and non-judgmental and he always had a certain flair for humour. He remains the ultimate friend, partner and confidante. Lorne maintained a steadfast interest in the Labrador Retriever and following his commitment to Joyce, Rickway Kennels grew into the entity that it is today and its name can be found in several well-published Labrador books of the day. He was the Working Certificate Representative for the Canadian Kennel Club for Manitoba, and belonged to the Manitoba GunDog Association, Midland County Lab Club (UK), Labrador Retriever Club of Manitoba, Labrador Retriever Club of Canada, Rice Creek Hunting Dog Association and the Canadian Kennel Club nearing almost 30 years of membership. Lorne was an avid hunter and his love of hunt tests took him south of the border where he encountered the "Minnesota Mafia", Dan Ross, John Lawrence and Dean Bicknese, his dear friends from Rice Creek Hunting Club. Many jovial hair raising stories grew over the years following their frequent visits across the border. His proudest, most fulfilling moments were judging hunt tests and retriever trials and a personal highlight was being invited to judge the Labrador Retriever Club National Hunt tests in Washington State. Lornes wishes were for immediate cremation followed by a short casual memorial service. Honorary Pallbearers are Dan Ross, John Lawrence, Dean Bicknese, Terry OReilly, Gord Rivest, John Schepens, Kendall Fromm, David Allen, Tom Hopper and Ken Cembrowski. Deepest gratitude to Dr. Barry Rosser, Dr. Gerald Minuk and Rose at the Health Sciences Centre - Liver Department and Dr. R. J. Boyd and Jackie for the past months of help and support. Also Cheryl Smith and Donna Sale, Palliative Care, North Eastman who were so supportive of Lornes last days at home. Last but not least, to Deb Hurrell, longtime friend who assisted in Lornes care and steadfast vigil through those last long nights, my undying gratitude. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday June 23 at 11:00 a.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapel, 699 Broadway. Camouflage/casual wear would not be deemed disrespectful or inappropriate. If friends so desire, donations in Lornes name may be made to Multi Organ Transplant Unit "MOTS", London Health Sciences Centre, 339 Windermere Rd., London, ON N6A 5A5 or Canadian Liver Foundation, 2235 Sheppard Ave. E, Suite 1500, Toronto, ON M2J 5B5.
