CHRISTINA BILLAN (nee MELNYK) Our beloved mother and nana passed away peacefully, in her sleep, at 91 years of age. She will be missed by daughter Shirley Penner; son Edward; grandsons, Doug (Darla), David (Jacqueline) great-grandchildren, Drew, Derek, Laryssa and Thomas; niece Marie Melnyk and all that knew her. She was born in Mazurivka, Ukraine on August 4, 1911. She came to Canada at the age of 18. Christina was a pioneer homesteader, who taught herself English. She worked hard at Western Packing House and the Grace Hospital while raising two children. She loved her garden and had a special green thumb with vegetables and flowers which she usually gave away gladly. She was a great cook and always had something to eat for everyone that visited. Her baking, borscht, perogies, holupchi and garlic stew were family favourites. She always could be heard saying, "Eat, eat, eat." Christinas hobbies were crocheting, knitting and embroidering. We treasure those valued keepsakes. She was a great nana for her grandsons and she delighted in her great-grandchildren, she loved them dearly. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Josephs Residence for taking such loving care of our beloved baba for the last few years of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of St. Josephs, 1149 Leila Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2P 1S6 or to a charity of choice. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 19 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 MAIN STREET 338-7111
