ALEX SHERMAN Our beloved father and grandfather Alex Sherman of Holy Family Nursing Home and formerly of Stuartburn, MB passed away in his sleep on June 18, 2003. Left to cherish Alexs memory are his children, MaryAnn (John) Prociuk, Peter (Gail) and Norm (Jan) his grandchildren, Darryl (Lynne), Michele, Janine, Larissa and Stephen; as well as great-grandchildren, Samantha and Matthew; brothers, Peter and Bill (Anne) sisters-in-law, Jennie and Rose; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Anne; parents, Anna and Dmytro; brothers, John and Steve; and sister Mary. Dad grew up in Stuartburn where he also met and married his wife Anne on October 23, 1943. They lived in Winnipeg for a few short years and then returned to Stuartburn where they raised their family and made their home for the next 48 years. Alex was a longtime active member of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Stuartburn and served on the parish council and as a church elder. An accomplished carpenter, Alex travelled to many parts of Ontario, Saskatchewan and Manitoba and worked on commercial and residential construction projects. He had a unique and creative talent for being "Mr. Fix It". In his retirement he was an avid fisherman, mushroom and berry picker and he loved entertaining with his fiddle playing. Many visitors from near and far enjoyed the hospitality of their home in Stuartburn for evenings of music and card playing. Dad has also left his legacy through his special lumber camp pancake recipe. After suffering a stroke 12 years ago he was a resident of the Vita and District Personal Care Home for the past ten years at Holy Family Nursing Home in Winnipeg. Special thanks to the staff, especially those of St. Francis Ward for their compassion and caring. Funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, June 21 at 2:00 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Stuartburn, with interment at the parish cemetery. Fr. Ihor Royik officiating.
