HERMINE MAYER After having faced a rare illness with courage and dignity, our beloved mother and grandmother, Hermine Mayer, peacefully slipped away from this life in her 86th year with family members at her side. She joined her husband, Philipp, and son, Helmut, in heaven on June 20, 2003. Hermine, the youngest of Barbara (Porth) and Heinrich Hubers 10 children, was born on April 12, 1917, in Letnia, Austria. Minchen married Philipp Mayer of Dornfeld, Austria, on December 29, 1940, and as a newlywed, was his partner in life and in operating a large mixed farm. After overcoming many hardships during the Second World War, the couple immigrated to Winnipeg in September 1948 with their two surviving children to begin their lives anew in their adopted country. From a very early age, family was of primary importance to our mother. She was committed to working hard and striving to do her best for her husband, children, orphaned nephew and extended family and friends. Mother was known and respected for her keen memory and ability to recall details dating back to her youth - even people from other families with roots in that part of the world benefitted from her wisdom in their pursuit of family histories. Hermine leaves to cherish her memory son Ernest (Nancy) daughters, Ingrid Vickers (Dave) and Rosemarie Prokipchuk (Doug) nephew Rudy Huber (Madeleine) and grandchildren, Christina Vickers and Timothy and Christopher Prokipchuk; as well as Dr. Adam Huber (Dr. Theresa Fraboni), Crystal Zulynik (Terry), and Sarah Huber, who she considered her grandchildren as well. She will be sadly missed by brothers-in-law, Gunther in Winnipeg and Reinhardt and Horst in Germany; sisters-in-law, Luise, Luci and Ottilie and their families, also in Germany; as well as numerous long-time friends and neighbours. As the matriarch of the Huber family since 1990 and the last of her generation, "Tante Minchen" will be affectionately remembered by her many nieces, nephews and their children. We wish to convey our warmest gratitude to everyone who provided so much love and support to our mother and Oma during this difficult time. Sincere thanks are also extended for the kind attention and compassion shown by Drs. Robertson, Szpakowicz, and Bshouty and ICU and GA4 staff. According to Hermines wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 30, at St. Johns Ev. Lutheran Church, 370 McKenzie St. at College Avenue, with Pastor Bill Lehman officiating. A private interment will follow. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the St. Johns Lutheran Church Memorial or Scholarship Funds, Health Sciences Centre Foundation or a favourite charity. We hold you close within our hearts And there you will remain To walk with us throughout our lives Until we meet again. Herr erbarme Dich unser.
