WALTER (WALLY) WENSEL It is with great sadness that the family of Walter Wensel announces his unexpected passing on June 19 at age 76. He is survived by his loving wife Joan of 52 years; their children, Karen of Spokane, WA, Bob (Heather) of Selkirk, and Julie (John) of Winnipeg and grandchildren, David, Elizabeth, Melissa and Rachel and other relatives. He leaves sister-in-laws, Bernice Wensel, Betty Bjornson (Olie) brother-in-laws, Chuck Mason (Millie), and Rick Mason. He was predeceased by his parents Julius and Helene; his sister Edythe; his brothers, Henry and Albert and sister-in-law Mae Wensel. He was born in Winnipeg, January 21, 1927. He grew up in Weston and worked at Dominion Bridge for 39 years, where he made many friends. He enjoyed camping, fishing and travelling with his family. He retired at age 56 to his hobby farm at Netley until his passing. There he enjoyed haying, cutting wood and gardening. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to family and friends. Over the past two years, Wally bravely battled cancer, while continuing to do the things he enjoyed. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk with Pastor Stan Richards officiating. The family wishes to thank the paramedics, RCMP, staff at Selkirk and Grace Hospitals for their heartfelt attention. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba, Rm. 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
