HOWARD AKER It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Howard Aker, at the St. Boniface Hospital, on Saturday, June 21, 2003, at the age of 79 years. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Jeannine; son Stephen Aker (Margret) of Hartney, MB; daughters, Carol Thom (Garry) of Lebret, SK, Cindy Hoover (Allan), Rhea and Linda Aker all of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Gerry (Ange) and Richard Thom, Tim (Jamie) and Jennifer Hoover; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Sierra and Colby Thom. Also left to cherish his memory are Jeannines children, Paulette Kopp (Reid) of Winnipeg, Joel Delorme of Lac Du Bonnet and Lyn Delorme (Wendy) of Winnipeg; two grandchildren, Cheryl and Darlene Kopp and his two brothers, Carl Aker of Winnipeg and Victor Aker of BC. Howard was born in St. James and spent over 60 years living and working there. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Navy and served for three years. Following his service he whole-heartedly embarked on one of his many skills which evolved into a fulfilling career in construction work. When you drive through St. James, one can admire many of his works; the Courts of St. James being one of many. Howard showed a committed and caring interest in the lives and well being of disabled children. During his leisure time he was an avid bowler, skater and dancer. In his later years he especially enjoyed spending time on the greens with his best friend Al Oliver. His kindness, generosity and humour will be fondly remembered by his family and friends. The family wishes to thank the staff at St.Boniface Hospital and Deer Lodge Centre for their kindness and care. To honour his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 25 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception will follow. If friends so desire, donations in Howards memory may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, R3A1P6. When you think of Howard, remember him with a smile!
