EILEEN MARY CARD (SMEARS) Peacefully, on Friday, June 20, 2003 at the Deer Lodge Centre, Eileen Card passed away at the age of 82 years. She is lovingly remembered by Ella, her sister-in-law, companion and friend of 60 years; her sons, Howard, Danny, Gary and Jeff; nine grandchildren; her brother Alec (Bev) her sisters, Evelyn (Lloyd), Lois; sisters-in-law, Del, Dorothy and Mabel, and all their families. There is one great-grandchild (peanut) on the way. Eileen was predeceased by her parents, Kathleen and Reginald of Snowden, SK; her brothers, Danny, Ross and Roy and her husband Clarence. Eileen was born in Sylvania, SK, grew up in Snowden and trained as a nurse at the Victoria and Misericordia Hospitals in Winnipeg. She had a long, rewarding career in nursing supported by many colleagues in the medical community. Eileen and Clarence made their home in the West End of Winnipeg and spent many happy summers at Gull Lake, MB with Ella and her husband Charlie, Clarences twin brother, their sons, and many friends. In Eileens later years she lived at 20 Fort St. where she loved to play cards and scrabble with Ella and the other "high risers". Her final months were spent at Deer Lodge Centre, in the company of her new friends and roommates, Laura and Betty and the caring staff. Special thanks to Dr. John Geddes, and the staff of the Pacemaker Clinic at Health Sciences Centre and to her family doctor, Roy Smith of the Meadowood Clinic. According to her wishes, a private family memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I can't believe I'm only now typing this remembrance. I must have either been distracted at the time (or didn't realize I could do this). My Mom was terrific, loving, caring, thoughtful, helpful and a treasure in my life. I am very grateful that I had her to experience for 51 years. Although I left Winnipeg for work in Oct. 1992 and moved my family shortly thereafter to Ottawa, we made it home ever year for a visit. My earliest memories are of her nursing me when I was home sick from school with bronchitis. She treated me so well (and maybe partly because of it) I tended to get sick alot in my early years! - Posted by: Gary Card (Son) on: Mar 28, 2015
