GERTRUDE (GERTIE) McMILLAN (nee GOOD) Peacefully after a lengthy illness, we announce the passing of Gertie on Friday, June 20, 2003, at the St. Josephs Residence, at the age of 94. She leaves to mourn, one sister-in-law Lorene Cotton; brothers-in-law Albert Cotton and Fred Beeston; also nieces and nephews, all of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her husband Leonard in 1978; also her parents, two brothers, Homer and Jimmy Good; and one sister Rita Phillips. Gertie was born in the St. Charles area and resided in the area until her illness. In her younger years she worked at Coxs Millinery as a sales clerk until her marriage. She then devoted herself to her husband. Leonard and Gertie took in many foster children, loved them and nurtured them until they were adopted. Gertie was also a perfect seamstress, sewing clothes for herself and the children. Her love for sewing ended when her eyesight failed. She had a passion for gardening and a tour of her garden was both enjoyable and refreshing. Her enjoyment was her many trips she took to Victoria to visit with her sister Rita. She had a great devotion to the church and helped out in many capacities over the years. Special thanks go to Albert Cotton who devoted many hours of his retirement years to Gertie, taking her for rides in the country, shopping and lunches. This devotion brought her much joy. We wish to thank Ethel McGrath for being such a devoted friend to the end. Ethel held her hand until her passing. This is gratefully appreciated and will never be forgotten. Also many thanks to the nursing staff and all the workers at the St. Josephs Residence for their gentleness and caring. They grew to love her over the years and she always had a special smile for them. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the Assiniboia Christian Centre, 3390 Portage Ave. Viewing at 10:30 a.m. prior to service time. Msgr. Norman Chartrand and Msgr. Louis McCloskey will be officiating. A luncheon for family and friends will follow the mass. Interment will take place at the Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave. LEATHERDALE GARDINER Funeral Chapel - St. James - 949-4872
