ANNIE ELIZABETH ASKEW (nee HALL) It is with deep sadness that our family announce the passing of our dear mother, Nana and great Nana on Sunday, June 22, 2003, at the Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg, MB. Mum was born on May 16, 1907 in Newcastle on Tyne, England. She was predeceased by her loving husband Edwin William on February 28, 1975. Leaving to mourn is her daughter Miriam (Fred) Cook of Winnipeg; her two sons, Eric (Elaine) of Stonewall, MB and Jack (Jan), of St. Andrews, MB; her loving grandchildren, Lynn (Steve) Hewitt of Melbourne, Australia, Karen (John) Gray of Ashern, MB, Nancy (Rob) Robinson and Lindsay Askew of Winnipeg; her great-grandchildren, Lauren and Dean Hewitt of Australia and Jessica Robinson of Winnipeg; and her dear sister May (Helmut) Deihl of England. Mum also had very dear friends, Dave and Judy Kentziger, Rick and Joan Brown and Leslie Mehner. Mum and Dad arrived in Winnipeg in 1938 where they set up residence with their family. Mum worked both at Eatons and The Bay in both Mens and Childrens Shoes. She was very involved in the Isaac Brock Community Club, then in later years at the Poplar Seniors Club in East Kildonan where she was made an Honorary Life Member. Mum was a very strong and ambitious lady who lived life to the fullest. After Dad passed away, she set up their trailer at Lakeside Trailer Park in Winnipeg Beach. With her family and friends around her, Mum spent some very special and happy times. Mum also liked to play golf. She managed nine holes in her 90th year...putting being her forte. Mums greatest pleasure was playing cards. Although she was legally blind, she still managed a mean game of cribbage, whist or any other card game. Her trips to Middlechurch Home Day Care Program were also a great pleasure and something she looked forward to twice a week. We will miss her laughter, humour and her hilarious stories she would tell. God Bless you Mum for just being you. The family would like to thank all those that have helped Mum in the past years, especially those in the Middlechurch Day Care Program, the Home Care Department, Teresas Haven, the River East Personal Care Home in Winnipeg and their helpful staff and volunteers, the nurses and staff of the Concordia Hospital. Cremation has taken place at Mums request. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
