ALLAN ALEXANDER SIMPSON (VE4-AS/VA6-AS) Allan Alexander Simpson, of Calgary, AB, passed away after a brief battle with cancer on Sunday, June 22, 2003. Allan will be lovingly remembered by: his beloved wife Lise; his son David of Bergen, Norway; his daughter Janet Bakun and husband Jeff; his three very special grandchildren, Jayce, Jenna and Jade; two brothers, Ernest and Merlin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Allan was born in Penticton, BC on July 24, 1930 and moved to Calgary in 1942. He joined the Department of Transport, in Winnipeg, in 1949, later the Department of Communication until his retirement in 1985, after 36 years of service. Allan had four loves in his life: his Family, Ham Radio, Archeology and The North. Through his job, he travelled extensively in the Arctic and was blessed with the experience of living there for three years, from 1950 to 1953. He loved to travel on the land with the Inuit and thoroughly enjoyed working with them throughout his career. He made contact with 340 countries around the world via his Ham Radio and he was always building and experimenting with antennas. Amateur Archeology was a family affair, travelling around Manitoba on digs. David was on his first dig at the age of three years, and is now working as an Archeologist in Norway. After Allan retired he had wonderful times at Ingolf, ON and resided at Falcon Lake, MB for 13 years before moving back to Calgary. As well he spent many enjoyable years in Yuma, AZ. Allan will be dearly missed by all the lives he touched in his kind and gentle way. The family wishes to express their thanks to the Palliative Home Care staff, especially Sharon. A celebration of Allans life will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Thursday, June 26, 2003 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Cathy Giroux officiating. If so desired, a memorial tribute in Allans name may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 2nd Floor, 215 - 12 Avenue S.E.
