MR. LIE MIN SHIH With deepest sorrow, the family announces the passing of Mr. Lie Min Shih on June 22, 2003 in Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Bing Ren and Huiying and sister Kiu Xia in China. He is survived by Yun, beloved wife of 38 years; daughter Julie (Rob Schultz) of New Jersey; son Jun (Teri Man) and granddaughter Kelly of Calgary; sisters, Ping (Dan Ching Yang) and Kiu Xian in China. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Hui Eng; sisters-in-law, Ling (Doug Irwin) of Las Vegas; Roong (Rick Lam), and brothers-in-law, Peter and Lee Pei in Winnipeg and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada, U.S.A. and China. Lie was born August 31, 1929 in An-Kon, China. He was accepted to Wu Han University at the age of 16, but Lie decided to join the Nationalist Chinese Air Force based on his strong patriotic values. He trained with The Electronics Communication College of The Air Force and furthered his education in Mississippi and Washington, DC. He served in the Chinese Air Force until his discharge with honour as a Captain in 1963. After his discharge, he worked for the U.S. Overseas Service and Phillip Communications in Taiwan until 1970 when he immigrated to Canada with his family. He then was an employee with the Manitoba Telephone System which included two years of consulting in Saudi Arabia until his retirement in 1994. Lie was a hard-working man with great self-discipline. He set high standards and goals for himself as well as his children and derived great pride in his childrens achievements. Lie was well read and widely travelled. He had great interests in books, classical music, and different countries with various cultures. Lie was an active member in Winnipegs Chinese Community where he devoted a lot of time and energy prior to becoming ill in 1995. Lie will be deeply missed and always in the hearts and thoughts of those who loved him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 28 at 2:00 p.m. in the Garry Memorial Funeral Home at 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg. Special thanks to Dr. R. Smith and the staff of Unit 3 Victoria Hospital, Dr. Fiona Crow, and wonderful staff at 3E Riverview Palliative Care Unit.
