BEATRICE WICKMAN (nee PEARSON) Beatrice was born on March 2, 1914 in East Kildonan. She and her family moved to Transcona in 1917 where she resided for many years. She was married on August 4, 1948 to Gunnar. Beatrice obtained her license as a practical nurse and worked at the D.A. Stewart Centre, Selkirk Mental Health Centre, and Deer Lodge Hospital. She also served in the Canadian Army Medical Corp at Fort Osborne Barracks caring for returning soldiers in the Second World War. Beatrice was a foster mother to many children during the years she raised her only child. When her father was admitted to Deer Lodge Hospital, she became caregiver of her mother who resided with Beatrice and Gunnar until her passing in 1979. When Gunnars health was failing in his latter years she cared for him. Beatrice was creative and very skilled when it came to sewing, knitting, crocheting, and embroidery. She loved dressing dolls since she was a child. She won numerous awards for her doll clothes, including at the Red River Ex. Handicraft competition. Beatrice was one of the founding members of the Manitoba Doll Club and participated in the annual show and sale of dolls and doll- related items held by the Club. Her parents, Jack and Beatrice Pearson; brothers, Watson, Archie, Herb, Charlie, and Jack and husband Gunnar predeceased her. Her daughter Sharon, cousins, nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews survive her. At Beatrices request cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral. Interment in the family plot at Elmwood Cemetery will take place at a later date. Beatrice appreciated the care and support she received from Bea and Doug Burgess, Melba Rous, Brenda, Lois, Bernice, and Katherine (Home Care Program), Dr. Heidenreich and staff of Unit 5 North at Victoria Hospital, and Dr. Maharaj and staff of Heritage Lodge In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6, the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3 or a charity of ones choice.
