ELEANOR ROSE CURRIE (nee SERWA) Mrs. Eleanor Currie, aged 60 years, beloved wife of Paul of Tyndall MB, passed away after a courageous battle with leukemia, on Tuesday, June 24, 2003. Eleanors lifetime dedication was teaching children. She graduated from Manitoba Teachers College in 1962. She obtained her Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba in 1986. She started teaching in 1962 at various rural schools surrounding Pine River, MB and at Pine River Elementary School. She continued teaching at Hazel M. Kellington School in Neepawa, MB., from 1966 to 1973; Mary Duncan School and Keewatin Community College at The Pas, MB., from 1974 to 1979; Centennial School in Lac du Bonnet, MB., from 1981 to 1986 and Garson and Tyndall Schools from 1986 to 1998 where she also was assistant principal. Eleanors last teaching position was at Otter Nelson River School in Cross Lake, MB., from 1999 to 2002. During her 40 years of teaching, she enriched the lives and touched the hearts of many children, parents and colleagues with her special gifts of love, friendship and the uncommon wisdom to believe in the value of all, no matter how big or small. She always showed the greatest respect and love for her students. She shared in the pain of their disappointments and the joy of their success. Eleanor leaves to cherish her fond memories; her loving husband of 31 years, Paul; sons, Shawn of Tyndall, MB., Allan and special friend Kim of Winnipeg, MB; brothers, Frank and Ernie (Diane) of Pulp River, MB; Edward (Marge) of Peterborough, ON.; sisters, Mary (Mike) Syrnyk of Brampton, ON., Adeline (Adam) Semeniuk of Pine River, MB; half sisters, Arlene and Sharon of B.C; sisters-in-law Mary Serwa of Kelowna, B.C. and Irene Serwa of Dauphin, MB; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Eleanor was predeceased by parents, Nickolas Serwa in 1978 and Jennie Serwa in 1990; brother Nestor in 1995 and brother Albert in 2001. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 28 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sobering Funeral Chapel, Park Ave. E. Beausejour with Rev. Jim Wolfe officiating. Eleanor wishes all of her nieces and nephews to consider themselves as her honorary pallbearers. Eleanors family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at Cancer Care Manitoba and at ward GD6 of the Health Science Centre. Eleanor thought you were terrific.
