WILLIAM (BILL) KLETKE
Born: Apr 08, 1920
Date of Passing: Jun 25, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM (BILL) KLETKE In quiet calm surroundings, comforted with love and family by his side, "Dad" passed away on June 25. He was born on April 8, 1920 and was the last surviving sibling of 13 children. Dad grew up in the West End of Winnipeg and after schooling, joined the army in 1941. He attained the rank of Sergeant. During the war he went AWOL on Christmas Day of 1942 to marry his true love and lifelong companion, Louise Zimmerman. After release from the army in 1946, he joined the City of Winnipeg Police Force where he served honourably for 31 years. He retired as a Patrol Sergeant in 1976. Dads life was filled with many pleasures, but most memorable would be his nine visits to Cuba, many summers at West Hawk Lake (as long as he got one trout), his church seniors group where he was the shark at pool, and in his words, the best way to spend an afternoon, "Taking a bike ride in Birds Hill Park with Mom and an egg sandwich." Dad was happiest when tinkering in his garage. He loved nothing better than spending time with his children and grandchildren showing them how something could be made from nothing. He learned early in life that nothing should go to waste. He truly had an unselfish love for his family. Dad gave his time, energy and knowledge to ensure his family was cared for. This was his goal in life and he did succeed. He leaves this world knowing he was loved, and after 60 years of marriage, his duties as a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, have been fulfilled. He can now rest at peace. Dad, we love you. Your memory will be with us forever. Mom, Karen (Garth) Palanuk, Janis (Randie) Kushnier, Bill and Shannon, Greg and Carmen Colborne, Melanie, Jennifer, Kyle, Amber, Trevor, Wesley, Tanya, Braeden, Emma, Lucas and Benjamin (The Michelin Man). A celebration of Dads life will be held on Wednesday, July 2, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Lutheran World Relief, 1080 Kingsbury, Winnipeg.
