ARMANDE PIERETTE MATTE (HAMEL) BARON February 9, 1917 - June 26, 2003 Peacefully with her daughter by her side, Armande passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital. Armande was predeceased by her parents, Anna Gratton and Fredrick Matte; brother Fred; sisters, Antoinette and Veronica; husbands, Albert and Peter. She is survived by her daughter Paulette (Bob) Anguish; grandsons, Chris, David, Andrew and Albert; brothers, Philip (Murial), Raymond and sister Lavonne; numerous nieces, nephews in Vancouver and surrounding areas; cousin Bert (Donna) and members of the Baron family. Mom was born into a family of seven children, raised and schooled in Vancouver. In 1939, she married Albert Hamel and moved several times. While in Niagara Falls Mom adopted her only daughter Paulette. Mom and Dad finally settled in Birch River on a farm in 1949. This was real pioneering. Mom helped with breaking the land, milking cows, haying with horses, riding the binder and stooking and growing a large garden. The family rosary was said each night after supper and church on Sundays, weather permitting. After her first husband Albert died, Mom moved to Winnipeg and worked as a HCA at Tache Hospital and was close to her family and enjoyed her grandchildren. She then met and married Peter Baron in 1968 and were married for several years. After his passing, she remained in the Egin Avenue home for several years, until she moved into Bluebird Lodge on Keewatin Street. Mother enjoyed visiting friends and family, volunteering, pattern dancing, carpet bowling and the functions at the Brooklands Senior Centre. The family would like to thank Dr. Gorski and all the wonderful staff on 3rd Floor, Unit 9 at Seven Oaks Hospital for their care and compassion. Visitation and the Rosary will be said on Sunday, June 29 between 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, June 30 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, Logan and Ada with Rev.
