MATTHEW NICHOLAS (MATT) OZIRNY It is with deepest sadness, but marvellous memories, that we announce the peaceful passing of our devoted father, loving grandfather and great-grandfather on June 12, 2003 at Saskatoon City Hospital at the age of 90 years. Matt was born in the Sheho district, SK on November 2, 1912. He is survived by his six children, Joyce (Gerald) Hansen, Saskatoon and their children, Dawn and Neil; Lindy (Bob) Blakely, Vernon, BC and their children, Don, Garth and Kim; Jeanie (Gerry) McAlpine, Winnipeg, MB and their children, Stacey, Deborah, Cheryl and Laura; Mervin Ozirny, Melville and his children, Evan, Jocelyn, Danielle and Christine; Patrick (Joan) Ozirny, St. Albert, AB and their children, Jon, Victoria and Kimberly; Bonnie Ozirny, Regina and daughter Shannon; 12 great-grandchildren; his loving companion, Kay Budzinski, Winnipeg, MB; brother Alex, Calgary; sisters, Mary, Yorkton, Vicky, Salmon Arm, BC and Lillian, San Francisco, CA. He was predeceased by his childrens mother, Mary in July 2000; beloved granddaughter, Erin Ozirny, September 2001; sister Anne and brother Bill. Matt was self-employed in the trucking business in the Theodore and Parkerview area until 1947, when he built a hotel in Parkerview. He was actively involved in municipal office and served as regional newspaper columnist for Yorkton Enterprise. He owned hotels in Dubuc and Maple Creek until his retirement to Saskatoon in 1965. He devoted his time and talents to the Masonic Lodge, the Saskatoon Shrine Club and the Canadian Club of Saskatoon. He was a tireless volunteer for the Shriner fundraising activities until two years ago when his health began to fail. Even then, he could be found in the library poring over the many newspapers. Although he felt richly rewarded by his volunteer activities, he found his greatest joy in his children and grandchildren and summer days and dances at Manitou Beach. He maintained his sharp wit, sense of humour and gentle nature to the last. Thank you to the Dr. Enweani, staff at Saskatoon City Hospital and Nightingale Nurses. A celebration of life service with Marianne Twigg officiating was held at the New Masonic Lodge on Tuesday, June 17 at 10:00 a.m.
