ALOYSIUS JOSEPH NIERODA Peacefully, on June 27, 2003, Aloysius Joseph Nieroda passed away at Concordia Hospital, aged 84. Dad will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife Carole Nieroda of 51 years; son Edward (Cathy) daughter Andrea; his two grandchildren, Derek and Stephanie; sisters, Eleanor Klapecki and Eugene (Joe) Wazny; sister-in-law Helen Sorobey; and many nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Mary Nieroda; his sister Emily (Joe) Kernoski and Baby Nieroda. Dad was born November 23, 1918 and was raised in Winnipeg, attending Holy Ghost and St. Alphonsus Schools. He served with the RCAF for four years during the Second World War. After his time in the service, he worked alongside his brother-in-law Ted Klapecki operating a locksmith business. He later joined the Federal Government working at the Canadian Grain Commission in the finance department, retiring after 26 years of service. Dad was very thorough and always meticulous in everything he did. He loved taking care of his lawn and shrubs and to Dad he did not "cut" his lawn he "manicured" it. He was a devoted parishioner of Holy Ghost and St. Alphonsus churches and when he could no longer attend mass he would religiously participate in the TV Church services. The family wants to extend their sincere thanks to all the doctors, nurses and support staff at Concordia Hospital. We also want to thank the many homecare workers who so compassionately took care of him over the past few years. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 2 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, Munroe Avenue and Brazier Street with Brother Jorge Villegas OFM, Cap. officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Als memory to Manitoba League of Persons with Disabilities or the charity of your choice.
