Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS DUECK March 26, 1927 - June 27, 2003 Passed away suddenly on Friday, June 27, 2003 at the Stonewall General Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret (nee Toews) and their children, Jake (Vi), Elizabeth (Randy), Sarah (Don), Pete (Flo), Dave (Elaine), Frances (Henry), Abe (Kim), Richard and Esther (Wayne). He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and eight great-grand-children. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Helen, Betty, Maria, Henry, Sally, Peter, John, Kay, Anna and their spouses and families and countless friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Sara. Thomas was employed at CP Express for 23 years as a tractor trailer mechanic. Even though he took early retirement for health reasons, he remained extremely active, whether it was helping farming, volunteering with the Faith Mission in Winkler and the Union Gospel Mission or helping whomever, family, friends, or neighbours, with whatever needed to be done. If a part was needed for a repair and couldnt be bought or he thought it too expensive, he would make it with great success. Dads love for his children was evident in the ways that he helped all of them with their home projects. He had a terrific sense of humour and enjoyed a good joke. When a stroke slowed him down a couple of years ago, he kept his mind active by doing search-a-word. He enjoyed life and the large family gatherings held for special occasions. Special thanks from the family are extended to the hospital staff and ambulance attendants for their care and support. Visitation from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. (with a short service at 8:00 p.m.) Wednesday, July 2 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St. Funeral service 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 3 at the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church, 345 Simcoe St. at St. Matthews.
