Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDENISE ANDREE ADELAIDE CALLENS (nee CARRIERE) On Monday, June 30, 2003 God came and brought his daughter home. Mom was born March 13, 1922 in Ile Des Chenes, MB; daughter of Albert and Marguerite Carriere. She was the sixth in a family of nine. She spent her youth in Ile Des Chenes, and in her mid-20s she ventured to Montreal, where she received her certificate in dress designing, which she put to practical use throughout her life in the many costumes, coats, dresses and uniforms that we all benefited from. From Montreal, she moved back to Winnipeg and resided in Fort Garry where she spent her remaining years in the home she loved as was her wish. Mom will always be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humour and her devotion to her family. She was always involved in our lives, whether it was volunteering at school teas, mothers guild meetings, or tap dancing recitals. She was a religious woman with a strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the rosary. She was very active in her church, (St. Vital Parish) volunteering at various functions including working the canteen on movie nights and bingo, to spring teas and fall suppers. She was employed at South Winds Motel, Vincent Massey Collegiate and spent 10 years prior to her retirement at Eatons, St. Vital. Mom is survived by her four daughters and sons-in-law who were more like sons to her. She will be sadly missed by Solange (Sally) and husband Kelly Armstrong, Nicole (Nicki) and husband Karoly Neczpal, Jacqueline (Jackie) and husband Petur Petursson, and Jo-Anne (Jo) and husband Bill Crone. She also leaves to cherish her memory her four grandchildren, (the joy of her life) Kimberly Petursson, Ben, Luc and Teena Crone. She is also survived by one sister Armande Lagasse as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mom was predeceased by her parents; three brothers, Armand, Leon and Maurice; four sisters, Solange Carriere, Denise Carriere (infant), Rolande Carriere and Alice Frobisher. A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 6 between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. in P. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 156 Marion St. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 7 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Vital Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Hwy., with Rev. Dr. Fr. Patrick Morand officiating. Rosary prayers will be said one-half hour prior to service. Cremation will take place and interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6.
