GEORGE MICHAEL COLTON After a long and full life, George Michael Colton passed away at 1:00 a.m., July 2, 2003. A devoted family man, he adored his wife Estelle. Had life permitted they would have celebrated their 64th anniversary together on Saturday, July 5th. He took much pride in his children, Wayne (Laurie) and Diane (Michael), his grandchildren, Katherine and Ian, and looked forward to meeting the most recent member of his family, Aidan Kate. As a boy of ten, he made the long trip from the steppes of the Ukraine to the prairies of Manitoba with his sister Nellie and his brother Harry in 1922. Theirs was a lesson in the history of the province to which they contributed so much. With determination and single mindedness George graduated from teachers college in 1936 and more than 30 years later, after seeing his children educated, obtained a Bachelor of Science from the U. of North Dakota and a Bachelor of Education from the U. of Manitoba. He was immensely proud of these achievements. His lifelong interest in learning is marked by a well-worn thesaurus. George loved life and fought hard to remain in its good graces. He is warmly remembered by former students and colleagues. After retirement Dad and Mom travelled extensively, eventually settling for a snowbirds retreat in Mesa, Arizona. Dad sacrificed the winters for Moms love of golf - willingly caddying for her and sometimes even daring a game himself. The family extends a special thanks to the Grace Hospital staff and the ambulance attendants for their care and support. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with Very Rev. John A. Melnyk officiating. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Georges memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
