Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID DEREK GELLMAN David Derek Gellman passed away June 30, 2003 in Vancouver General Hospital at the age of 76. Derek was born in England in 1926 where he was educated and qualified as a physician. In 1956, he and his wife Vera emigrated first to the United States and then to Winnipeg, MB in 1956. Derek practised medicine at the Winnipeg Clinic from 1958 to 1972. In 1972 he took a position with the federal government in the Department of National Health and Welfare first as medical consultant and health systems analyst and ultimately as Director General of Health Standards and Health Services. From there moved to Vancouver in 1978 to join the Vancouver General Hospital where he became Vice President of Medicine. He remained in that position until his retirement in 1988. In his retirement, Derek remained active in numerous committees concerned with medical and health issues. He was also actively engaged in travel and his lifelong educational and cultural pursuits. Derek is survived by his wife Vera and his children, Andrew and Catherine. A memorial service will be held at Hollyburn Funeral Home, 1807 Marine Dr. in West Vancouver at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 4.
