SOPHIE ANN SLIPEC (ZGODA) January 31, 1936 - July 1, 2003 Peacefully, with family at her side, on Tuesday, July 1, 2003, Sophie passed away at Seven Oaks General Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Sophie will be greatly missed by her husband of 44 years, Edward; son, Jim (and Vera) Slipec of Winnipeg; daughter, Debbie (and Kevin) Young of La Salle and granchildren, Jason (Slipec), Corey (Slipec) and Bryan (Young). She will be sadly missed by her brother Walter (Shirley) Zgoda; sister Olga (Orvil) Lilke; sister-in-law Olga (Walter) Norget; brother-in-law Mike Slipec and numerous nieces and nephews. Sophie was predeceased by her mother, Francis, in 1948; father, Stanley, in 1970; grandson Ryan in 1996; and sister, Jean in 2002. Sophie was born in West St. Paul and lived her entire life in Winnipeg. She was a loving mother and wife who worked until her retirement in 1999. She loved to work in her gardens and enjoyed most outdoor activities. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was and always will be a candidate for "Baba" of the Year. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff from the 3rd floor-U4 and U5, of Seven Oaks General Hospital for the kindness and compassion bestowed upon Sophie and the family. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sophies memory to CancerCare Manitoba.
