DONALD HUNT A time of celebration for the life of Donald Hunt was held Monday, June 30, 2003, at 7:00 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville, Iowa. Participants were the family and friends, led by Pastor Gary Catterson and Rabbi David Greene. Inurnment will take place in Pennsylvania at a later date. Donald Stanley Hunt was born January 19, 1941, in Hoshan, Anwei, China, the son of Cyril Hunt and Jesse (nee Wall) Hunt. He passed away Friday, June 27, 2003 in St. Marys Hospital at Rochester, Minnesota. He had reached the age of 62 years, 5 months, and 8 days. Don graduated from high school in Winnipeg, Canada, and was a graduate of Lamar State College of Technology in Beaumont, Texas. His first marriage produced two sons, John David Hunt and Robert Healey Hunt. He was employed by Canada Packers, Gaertner-Harff Meat Packers in Erie, PA, and Agriprocessors in Postville, Iowa. Don was married to Judith Rae Miller on December 6, 1980. He came to Postville in 1991 to manage the plant and Judy joined him in 1992, following her retirement from teaching. Don actively bred and raised British White Cattle, bison, and several varieties of purebred dogs. He had many exotic birds as well, including emus, peacocks, and pheasants. One of his interests in his spare time was boating. He was a member of the Erie Yacht Club and the Erie Kennel Club. Survivors include his wife Judy; two sons, John David Hunt and his wife Lila, of Tyndall, Manitoba, Canada, and Robert Healey Hunt and his dear friend, Jamie, of Wauzeka, Wisconsin; a step-daughter, Kelly Lynn Kopin of Erie, Pennsylvania; one grandson, Ethan James Healey Hunt, four step-granddaughters, Chantel Henderson, Cyndall Henderson, Lena Lyn Pritchard, and Meya Lynette Pritchard; one step-grandson Kyle Michael Bayne; one brother John (Catherine) Hunt of Pearl, Mississippi; two sisters, Monica (Lionel) Carter of Ridgetown, ON, and Marg (Marvin) Eisner of Ottawa, ON; his mother-in-law Jane N. Miller of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, and many, many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, and an uncle, Joseph Hunt. Don loved life so much that he donated his organs through Life Sources so that others might live a better life. Memorials may be made to the Postville Child Care Services, PO Box 402, Postville, Iowa 52162-0402.
