JACOB JAKUBEC On Canada Day at Seven Oaks General Hospital in Winnipeg at 100 years of age, Jacob Jakubec, the beloved husband of Anne Jakubec, passed away peacefully. Jacob was born in Rovno, Ukraine in the year 1902. Jacob adopted Canada as his homeland in 1928. On February 7, 1934 he married Anne Rudnicki, his wife of 68 years. Together they raised three children, Diana, Michael and Gregory. Jacob is survived by his wife Anne; daughter Diana (Bill) Baran, Gregory (Pam) Jakubec; daughter-in-law Connie Jakubec; grandsons, Howard and Darrell (Mariam) Baran, Mitchell (Lee) and Cory (Elizabeth) Jakubec, Christopher; great-grandchildren, Miranda, Hannah, Esabella and Toni. He was predeceased by his son Michael (1980). Dad worked at many jobs, the most important of which was with Williams Painting and Decorating. During these years, Dad developed his expertise by painting and varnishing many homes in Winnipeg. He was always meticulous in his work. Every year, whether the house needed it or not, he would bring out the oil paints and paint our home on Burrows Avenue. With a sparkle in his eye, Gigi found happiness in entertaining his grandsons. Retiring in 1970, Dad remained active well into his 90s. The family would like to express their appreciation for the wonderful care and support given by the third floor staff at Holy Family Nursing Home for the past two years and the nurses and staff on the third floor of Unit 5 at Seven Oaks General Hospital for making Dads remaining days comfortable. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Interment took place on Friday, July 4 at Brookside Cemetery.
