MARY ROSE NAZAREWICH (nee SWYSTUN) Born in Sorotsko County of Galicia, Ukraine April 16, 1912, passed away peacefully July 2, 2003 at Park Manor Personal Care Home in Transcona. Afflicted with Alzheimers Disease, she took residence at the Home in 1994, where she remained until her passing. Mary was an elementary school teacher whose 40-year career was served in the Interlake, Springfield and East Kildonan districts. After her retirement in 1977, she mightily enjoyed teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), where many students became friends and benefitted greatly in preparing to learn to live in Canada, with the help of Marys enthusiastic and cheerful approach. Mary, or "Swissy" as she was often fondly called, was predeceased by her husband Dan in 1995. She survived all of her siblings which, as she used to say, made her "the last of the Mohicans". She is survived by her daughter Laurel and son Richard, both of Vancouver; three granddaughters, Kimberley Short (Laurie) of Calgary, Sonia and Danielle of Vancouver, and many nieces and nephews from across Canada, the U.S. and the Ukraine. Mary will always be remembered for her fierce, enthusiastic, and undying Spirit, her contribution to the education of all her students and the inspiration she instilled in those whose lives she touched. She was the end of an era. Many thanks and appreciation to staff, and volunteer caregivers, who lovingly took time to comfort her at Park Manor. Also to Dr. Grace who monitored her health in her last years, and for the loving support given by family, friends, and members of her church throughout the illness that not only robbed her of her memory, but robbed her loved ones of the great lady they knew and loved so well. We thank God for releasing her into His loving arms to dwell in peace in the House of our Lord forever. Prayers will be said on Friday, July 11 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., followed by funeral service on Saturday, July 12 at 10:00 a.m. at All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1500 Day St., Transcona. Following interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main St., all are welcome at the church, to join in a luncheon celebration of Marys life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society in Marys memory. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
