Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELVA JOAN OLIVER (nee JORUNDSON) January 15, 1928 - July 4, 2003 Elva passed away peacefully on July 4, 2003 after a long courageous battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Her loving family was by her side. Elva leaves behind her loving husband of almost 41 years John, loving son Jason (Charell), her devoted and loving daughter Thorlein and their loyal dog Stormy. She is also survived by her brothers, John (Evelyn) Jorundson, Barry (Edith) Jorundson and Dave (Sandra) Jorundson; sister Janet (Fred) Halls; brother-in-law Robert (Jeannie) Oliver (Scotland) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Thorhallur and Thorun Jorundson; sister-in-law Ruth Irving and brother-in-law Bill Irving (England). Elva was born in Winnipeg and lived in the St. James area her entire life. After graduating from St. James Collegiate, she joined the office staff of Miller McDonald Chartered Accountants in 1948, then Air Canada in 1955. Elvas outgoing personality was well suited to the customer service niche working in their sales office. Many of her fondest memories were of her times at Air Canada and of the lifelong friendships she made during her 38 years with the company. Elva had a zest for life and approached every situation with a wonderful, positive attitude. When Elva was diagnosed in 1982 with Rheumatoid Arthritis, she embraced the disease and did everything she could to ensure that it did not change her way of life or that of her familys. She underwent every available treatment at the time, and it was her optimism that would see her through the next 21 painful years. Despite all of the physical pain involved in her daily life she still managed to maintain her unique sense of humour and quick wit. She particularly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Some of Elvas favourite interests were reading, gardening, cooking and travelling. We would like thank Dr. Ray Singer, family physician. We would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Grace Hospital, and the devoted staff from the WRHA Home Care who saw to Moms needs over the last few years and the dedicated support they gave our family. Elva will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. Cremation has already taken place and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 9 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave., 885-9715. If friends so desire donations in Elvas memory can be made to the Arthritis Society, 105-386 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R6, 942-4892.
