ALEXANDER SLOBOGIAN Alex passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 4, 2003. Alex is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Olga; sons, Brian (Onalee), Len (Karen) and Kevin (Tracey) daughter-in-law Marilynn Slobogian; six grandchildren, Erin, Courtney, Joel, Vanessa, Tyler and Cassidy; brother Tom; and sisters, Eileen and Marge. He was predeceased by his son Garry; and grandson Trevor; parents, Fred and Mary; brothers, Bill and Peter; and his sisters, Beth and Rose. Alex was born February 12, 1923 and raised on the family farm in St. Martin, MB. He married Olga Prychitko in 1945 and they moved to Cochnour, ON in 1947. He worked in the Cochnour gold mines until 1950 before returning to St. Martin. In 1962 Alex and Olga moved to Winnipeg where Alex joined the Grain Exchange Curling Club as an ice maker and Co-op Implements as a service mechanic. He retired in 1987 and enjoyed many years as the caretaker for the St. Josaphat Parish. His love for his family and friends can be felt by all who knew him. Many thanks to Fr. Royik for his visits and his blessings. A special thank you to all the members of the Palliative Care staff who made his final days so peaceful. The family would also like to acknowledge the care and love provided by Brenda, Wilma, Jason and Pat. Prayers will be said on Tuesday, July 8 at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church on 590 Alverstone St. at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 9 at 10:00 a.m. also at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church with Fr. Ihor Royik officiating. Interment will take place immediately following the service at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Thank you to our pallbearers, Rudy Turman, Ed Prychitko, Albert Krakalovich, Ron Jones, Greg Dawyduk and Joel Slobogian.
