GERTRUDE IRENE BOTTERILL (nee MAHONEY) June 21, 1922 - July 4, 2003 It is with great and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother Gertrude Irene (Gertie) Botterill on July 4, 2003 at the age of 81. Gertie leaves to cherish her memory her son Murray, wife Donna and daughter Christa; her daughter Margo, partner Kevin and son Michael; her brother Jack Mahoney and wife Margerat of Calgary; her brother-in-law Harry Botterill and wife Nora of Winnipeg; and nieces and nephews and their families. Gertie moved to Winnipeg from Calgary when she married Stan Botterill in 1942. They resided in Morse Place all their married life. During that time, you could always find both of them at home or at Grand Beach. Stan predeceased Gertie in 1972. In 1983, Gertie moved from Morse Place to Parkside Plaza on Henderson Highway, where she continued to expand her circle of friends. She enjoyed many nights of card games and comradery with the Parkside Seniors Group. In 2000, Gertie moved from her Henderson Highway home to Riverview Health Centre. Once again, Gertie became the centre of activity and conversation as she involved herself in many events at Riverview. Mom will be especially missed by her brunch buddies Agnes and Evelyn. Mom always showed a love for life and for her friends. Gerties favourite hobbies were sewing, cut work quilt and needlepoint. She gave away many of her works she made just for the sheer pleasure of giving rather than receiving. My sister and I extend our thanks for the care Mom received at St. Boniface Hospital and Grace Hospital. A special acknowledgement of appreciation to Grace Hospital staff - nurses, Shirley Allen, John, Trudy, Cindy, and Dr. Homik and Dr. Mallick. We would also like to express our deepest gratitude to the entire staff of Riverview Health Centre. The happiness we saw in our mother over the three years she spent there have been a joy and a gift that we will always treasure. Thank you for caring for her so very much. A memorial service to celebrate Moms life will take place at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday July 9 in the chapel at Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Khartum Shrine Patient Transportation Fund, 1155 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3P 1B9 or the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg MB R3A 1P6.
