ELIZABETH GALL HOLMES Elizabeth (Betty) Holmes passed away peacefully at the Concordia hospital on July 3, 2003 at the age of 97 years. Grandma was predeceased by her husband Bernard Holmes, her parents, James and Hannah Hilton; and sister Margaret Carriere. She is survived by her son Bernard Holmes, her grandchildren, Elizabeth Laurencelle (Renald), Ronald Holmes (Carol), Bruce Holmes, Ian Holmes (DeAnn) and Leslie Holmes Fitzpatrick (Edward), nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, daughter-in-law Doris Holmes, sister-in-law Ciss Jackson, brother-in-law Norman Holmes and several nieces and nephews. Grandma was born on June 27, 1906 in Inverness, Scotland and moved to Transcona as a young girl with her family. She married the boy next door and lived on the same street in Transcona all of her life. Grandma and Grandpa first owned a summer cottage at Ottermere and then at Minaki, ON where they enjoyed many memorable summers. They spent 54 happy years together. Grandma then lived independently for the last 22 years with the company of her beloved cats Charlie, Smokey and Tinker. Grandma was dearly loved by her grandchildren and their families and was an inspiration to us all. The family would like to thank Dr. Caners and the compassionate staff on Ward 3 West of the Concordia Hospital. Cremation has taken place and in accordance with Grandmas wishes, there will be no service. Those who wish may donate to Grandmas favourite charity, the Winnipeg Humane Society.
