Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBEATRICE ELEANOR SOPHIA DEANS June 8, 1926 - July 5, 2003 Betty was born in Kingston, England on June 8, 1926 to parents Sally and Jack Gunner. She lived through the Second World War, working at Smithers and Sons assembling aircraft equipment. She was married to Alex Ledochowsky in Kingston, England in 1952, until they divorced in 1964. They migrated to Canada in 1960, residing in Winnipeg. She worked as a nanny from 1960 to 1962, at Childrens Hospital as a housekeeper for two years, and at Central Park Lodge for five years as a Nurses Aide. Betty married Albert Klaus Deans in 1970. She left her work to lovingly look after her husband who was ill, until he passed away in 1990. She joined the Salvation Army in 1965 and was an avid member for many years. She taught Sunday School, did pub duty, and served with the Christmas Cheer Board, gathering donations. In this, she was fulfilling Gods purpose for her in life, which gave her much joy, pride, and a feeling of self worth. Betty is survived by her cousin Bill Cuel of Comox, BC; and her cousin Jill Balchin and husband Geoff and family of Courtenay, BC. Her awareness of her fight with cancer started in May 2003. Christ walking beside her, and her devotion to Him helped her and strengthened her faith even more. She never lost her good sense of humor. She will be remembered for her honesty, caring, trusting ways, giving of herself without reservation, and sharing Gods love with others. She will be greatly missed by many friends who have come to love her dearly. Many thanks to the staff at the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital, to Dr. Ray Martins, to Dr. Szajkowski at the HSC Cancer Clinic. Also to Captains Roy and Juanita Dueck and members of The Salvation Army East Kildonan Corps, and the Coffee Clutch at Norway House (1301 Rothesay). Deep appreciation also to a dear friend, Mary Ann Friesen, who lovingly cared for Betty during the last months of her life. Funeral service 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 10 at East Kildonan Citadel, 401 Henderson Hwy. Donations may be made in Bettys memory to The Salvation Army East Kildonan Corps.
