JONAS (BJOSSI) SIGURBJORN HILBERG JONASSON It is with sadness the family of Bjossi Jonasson announces his passing on Sunday, July 6, 2003, at his home in Vidir. Dad is lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Emily; children, Glenn, Wendy (Dexter Roche), Lyle (Debbie), Kevin and Wesley; grandchildren, Erin, Mark, Laura, Reid and Dana. He also leaves behind his sister Helga; nephews, Bjorn (Alice), Allan (Gloria) and Billy (Sandy) nieces, Olena, Johanna (George) and Steinunn, and their families, as well as his in-laws and many other nieces and nephews. He had a special place in his heart for Olena, Johanna and Bjorn, whose childhood home was in the same farmyard as Dad, and they kept in touch over the years although they did not always live nearby. He was predeceased by his parents, Kristjan and Steinunn; sister Kristjana and her husband Konni; twin sisters, Hildur and Sigurbjorg who died in infancy; half-sister Bjorg; half-brothers, Steini and Laugi; and a nephew Ernest. Dad was born on his parents farm in Vidir on January 22, 1920. He worked on the family farm as he was growing up, and eventually took it over. Shortly before he married in 1956 he rented out the farm and began his career at the Arborg Co-op, working his way up over the years to the position of General Manager. It was in 1969 he decided that sitting in an office all day wasnt for him. Mom and Dad bought Kristjana and Konnis farm and moved their family out to Vidir, the place that was always home. Dad served his community well, being a charter member of the Arborg Credit Union, a 20 year member of the Board of Trustees of the Arborg & District Health Centre, a long time member of the Board of the Arborg Coop, and many other boards and committees. Dad always had a positive outlook on life, able to see the good in most anything and anyone. He was very talented in many ways, and could build or fix just about anything, which he loved to do. He loved music. Dad sang in many choirs, acted in plays, played his violin for his own enjoyment, and played at Vidir dances. In his later years, he enjoyed listening to his grandchildren play the piano and guitar. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 10 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church, Arborg, MB., with interment following in the Vidir Cemetery. Pallbearers are Bjorn Bjornson, Billy Jonasson, Allan Sigurdson, David Einarson, Dan Einarson and Leo Gudmundson. The family would like to thank the people who helped to care for Dad over the last few years, the doctors and nurses at the Arborg Hospital, the home care nurses and caregivers, and a special thanks to Georgina Ball who provided such compassionate support to our family over the last few weeks while Dad was at home. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations can be made to the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church. Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
