ANNE MARGARET KOKE (nee HARRIS) Anne Margaret Koke (nee Harris) passed away with grace and dignity on July 4, 2003, three days after her 90th birthday. Anne was predeceased by her loving husband, Joseph A. Koke in 1997. She is survived by her son Dr. Conrad J. Koke (Brenda S. Hooge), their children, Andrea and Sam Hooge; sisters, Verna Besko and Nadia Kozoris; brothers, Murray (Joan) and Vic; sister-in-law Helen Porteous; brothers-in-law, Ted (Joyce) and Tony; and many nieces and nephews. Anne was born and educated in Winnipeg, MB. She taught school in several rural communities and then for 17 years taught piano in Dauphin, MB where she was an active member of the music community. When Joe and Anne moved to Winnipeg in 1961, she enrolled in a Library Technicians course. Upon graduation she embarked on her third career in the Special Library of the Manitoba Department of Health and Welfare. Anne was a member of the National Council of Women, an active member of the I.O.D.E. at the local, provincial and national levels, a member for 53 years of the Catholic Womens League holding various executive positions and a volunteer in many local libraries wherever she lived. Upon retirement, Anne and Joe travelled extensively. They wintered many years in Guadalajara where she studied Spanish and immersed herself in the culture. In 1995, Anne and Joe relocated to Victoria. Anne continued to enjoy bridge, golf, symphony productions and reading. Music and books were vital to her and she thrived on discussions about either. Anne will always be remembered for her gracious loving spirit and her appreciation of literature, music and art. We would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Victoria Hospice who gave Anne special care and compassion these past few months. Thanks also to Annes many friends who provided ongoing support and kindness to her. Interment will be held at a later date in Winnipeg, MB. Donations may be made in Annes memory to the Victoria Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation. Family and friends are invited to drop in to celebrate Annes life at her home from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12.
